A gorgeous pink diamond sold for $49.9 million in Hong Kong, setting a world record for the highest price per carat for a diamond sold at auction!

On Friday (October 7), a pink diamond was sold in Hong Kong for 49.9 million dollars (approximately 51 million euros). thus setting a new world record for the highest price per carat for a diamond sold at auction. ABC News writes about it.

Auctioned by Sotheby’s Hong Kong, the 11.15-carat Williamson Pink Star diamond sold for HK$392 million (approximately €51 million). Initially, its value was estimated at only 21.5 million euros.

Williamson Pink Star also gained its reputation thanks to two legendary pink diamonds. The first is the 23.60-carat Williamson diamond, which was donated to the late Queen Elizabeth II. as a wedding present in 1947the second is the 59.60-carat Pink Star diamond, which sold at auction in 2017 for a record-breaking nearly 73 million euros.


The Williamson Pink Star is the second largest pink diamond to appear at auction. Pink diamonds are among the rarest and most valuable of the colored diamonds.
