A cable car will be built in the capital of the Czech Republic, which will connect Prague 6 and Prague 8 over the Vltava. S
The construction should be completed within three years, TASR informs based on an article from the news server Novinky.cz. The architectural competition was announced by the Transport Enterprise of the Capital City of Prague (DPP). It was won by the design of the London architectural studio William Matthews Associates. The jury particularly appreciated the fact that it takes into account the surrounding natural and urban conditions. “The ropeway connects the Prague neighborhoods of Dejvice, Troja and Bohnicespanning the Vltava River and passing through one of the most significant natural features of Prague – the Troy Basin,” describe the project’s authors.
“In a few years, we will be able to drive in this elegant means of transport, in which it will be possible to board at three stations,” said Adam Scheinherr, deputy mayor of Prague for transport and chairman of the DPP supervisory board. He specified that in the case of the Troja intermediate station, the building will be located near the Vltava River, where the new entrance to the Prague Zoo is to be.
According to DPP spokeswoman Aneta Řehková construction should take place between 2024 and 2025, while it should not complicate traffic in the city. The costs are estimated at almost two billion Czech crowns (approximately 80 million euros). The cable car should transport 2300 people per hour in full operation.
