Happy move! Only a day before the first match of the 3rd preliminary round of the European Conference League, Slavia Praha added Ivan Schranz (28) to the cup roster. The Slovak representative repaid the trust with the winning goal.
Against Panathinaikos Athens (2:0), he scored the leading goal of the “stitched” at the end of the first half, who will go to the rematch in the end with a two-goal lead. The native of Bratislava did not worry about not being on the roster. “Everyone knows that there is huge competition. It turned out that they signed me up there and I started in the starting line-up. I am grateful that it turned out this way and that I helped the team with a goal,” Ivan told the club website.
He also pleased coach Jindřich Trpišovský, who revealed that in Schranz’s case it was a tactical move. “We wanted to confuse the opponent so that they don’t prepare for him.” The Slovak winger also plays as a defender in Slavia, he played 70 minutes against the Greek team. “Ivan already knew over the weekend that we would add him to the roster. We are happy for his performance, although he had to play defender, but he was great defensively.”
It was Schranz’s first competitive goal this season. “I feel great. It was a tough opponent. We won deservedly. Maybe one more goal was missing so that we would have an easier rematch. We’re only halfway there. We have to perform at least as well outside as at home and manage it.”
