Member and partner organizations of the Umbrella platform have transported almost 4,000 tons of material humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the outbreak of war in the country. Its value is estimated at approximately 7.5 million euros.
TASR was informed about this by the platform’s communication manager Boba Markovič Baluchová. “Converted to standard trucks with semi-trailers, there are almost 200 trucks. These primarily contained durable food, medical supplies and medicines, hygiene supplies, but also accessories for accommodation units, dishes,” she added. According to her, the shipments were mainly directed to cities destroyed by battles.
Markovič Baluchová recalled that centers that distribute aid report decreasing food supplies and an increased need for cleaning agents and medical supplies. “Slovak non-governmental organizations will continue to collect, broadcast and deliver humanitarian aid in Ukraine“, she added.
The Platform of Development Organizations – Umbrella has been coordinating the working group for humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the military invasion of Ukraine. “It collects and evaluates information from members and their Ukrainian partners, so that we can then use the data to promote more effective aid towards Ukraine and the functioning of a safe humanitarian corridor for its transportation,” added the executive secretary of the platform, Daniel Kaba.
