Over the past day, the Ukrainian armed forces repelled attacks by the Russian invasion army near six villages in the east of the country, the Ukrainian General Staff informs in its regular morning briefing on the development of the fighting. According to Reuters, President Volodymyr Zelensky described the situation at the front as difficult.
“Despite the extremely large losses, the occupiers are still trying to advance in the Donetsk region, gain a foothold in the Luhansk region, advance to the Kharkiv region, they are planning something in the south,” Zelenskyy said. in his regular evening video message.
Luhansk and Donetsk regions are part of eastern Ukraine’s Donbas, where heavy fighting has been taking place for months. The Ukrainians pushed the invading forces out of almost the entire Kharkiv region in September, then in November they regained control over the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, which the Russians had occupied practically since the beginning of the invasion.
“In the past 24 hours, units of the defense forces (of Ukraine) repelled attacks by the occupiers near the villages of Stelmachivka in the Luhansk region and Bilohorivka, Bachmutsk, Pervomajsk, Nevelsk and Marjinka in the Donetsk region,” reports the Ukrainian General Staff.
The command of the Ukrainian armed forces further claims, among other things, that the Russian army carried out two rocket strikes on civilian objects in the village of Kivšarivka in the Kharkiv region and in the city of Slovyansk in the Donetsk region. “The enemy does not stop shelling the units of our army and the villages on the right bank of the Dnieper River, including Kherson,” writes the General Staff. He also pointed out that there is still a threat of Russian missile strikes on the country’s critical infrastructure.
