A breakthrough project has been launched in Italian football. The stadium, which has seen many tense Milan derbies, will be replaced by a new project with an astronomical value.
San Siro, an icon among world stadiums, will be replaced by a colossal football stand for more than a billion euros. The new home for the AC and Inter clubs there will take eight years to build and the start of construction is scheduled for January 2024.
The new stadium will bear the name “The Cathedral” and should be ready for match operation in 2030, but the final completion of the building is still associated with the year 2032. It will stand near the San Siro stadium, which will be completely demolished. In addition to the new football stand, the project is in the plans also a congress and business center with an area of 63 thousand square meters.
In 2026, the Winter Olympic Games will be held in Italy, and the city of Milan will be one of the centers of world sports events. It is until this year that the famous Giuseppe Meazza stadium should be used because the opening ceremony of the said Olympics will take place on it.
